Design Parramatta - Barrack Lane Redevelopment
Under the collective name of G.O.L.D. - the Group Of Like-minded Designers - we were selected as one of the design teams for Design Parramatta.
Design Parramatta was an initiative of the Parramatta City Council with the aim of developing ways to rejuvenate urban precincts of the city.
As one of the selected teams, we were allocated Barrack Lane and given the brief of turning this humble laneway from a thoroughfare into a destination.
Over a 2 month period we worked towards developing a new urban design for the lane, acknowledging the history of the lane - a set of historical cottages with heritage significance - and the existing 'tenants' of the lane - a public school that backs onto the lane.
Our proposal developed a kit of parts to transform the lane into a pedestrian-centric street, and proposed a future development of a public-private partnership where the school began to further inhabit the streetscape.
Our proposal makes up part of a document put together by the Parramatta council to assist with developing a master plan of the city and a way of obtaining funding for potential new urban projects.
