Zenith Copine Chair Competition
Super Tectonics were extremely lucky to be invited to enter the Zenith Interiors Copine Chair Competition as part of Brisbane Indesign in 2012.
To launch the release of the new Copine Chair by Sean Dix, 12 design companies entered the competition with the aim of imparting their design journey onto the chair itself.
Our entry was inspired by our thirst for knowledge and education. We embedded, quite literally, a passage of text from Sir Ken Robinson into the seat of the chair itself. Over 1000 letters were punched into the seat using a metal letter punch set.
The seat back is a nostalgic reference to our old school days, when we would sit in class and look up at the blackboard learning our reading, writing and arithmetic. The letters - a nod to when you first learnt the alphabet (and our Super Tectonics initials) and the blackboard paint itself, allowing for interaction via chalk from an accompanying timber pencil case.
As judged by Sean Dix himself, along with Michael Zavros our chair was selected overall winner and the prize of a trip to Hong Kong.
